Something Shimmered – A poem for Advent

by the Rev. William D. Jenkins

This poem was written during the Advent Quiet Day retreat conducted by Canon Lisa Senuta at Grace Cathedral in reflection on the annunciation to Mary.

Something shimmered
There was no said word
Deep within it glimmered
In tones too deep to be heard

There was no said word
Holy silence filled my being
In tones too deep to be heard
The peace was freeing

Holy silence filled my being
An annunciation to let it be
The peace was freeing
God is indeed with me

An annunciation to let it be
Deep within it glimmered
God is indeed with me
In advent something shimmered
