Supply Clergy

Compensation expectations for supply clergy are described within the 2027 Compensation and Benefits Handbook:

“The compensation for Sunday supply priests is $150 for one service and $200 for two services in one location on the same morning. This covers time for sermon preparation, service planning, etc. Time spent providing pastoral care, such as hospital calls, should be paid at a minimum rate of $37 per hour. Reimbursement for travel mileage must be paid at the standard rate published annually by the IRS. Reimbursement of other expenses, such as meals or lodging, may also be appropriate.

Per the US Tax Code, supply priests who receive more than $2,000 from a single faith community (apart from mileage and travel reimbursement) should be issued a Form 1099-NEC by the faith community at the end of the year.”
