On Saturday, October 1, Children’s Ministers from around the Diocese of Kansas met to share ideas, skills, and fellowship. Our hybrid Fall Event was held in person at the Larry Bingham Classroom of the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry and also offered via Zoom.
Children’s Ministers from eight parishes participated in sharing ideas and “how-to” tips for Sunday School for our youngest Episcopalians — from birth to the beginning of middle school.

Barbara McCall from St. Thomas, Overland Park, Carol Gaumer from St. Margaret’s, Lawrence, and Ryan Bloyd-Wiseman from St. Michael’s, Mission demonstrated Godly Play techniques. The groups, both online and in person, shared ideas, experiences, and plans. Bishop Cathleen Bascom joined the group for lunch, gave a tour of Bethany Garden, and spent time talking with the leaders about children’s ministry.
Besides St. Thomas, St. Margaret’s, and St. Michael’s, other participating parishes included St. David’s, Topeka, Grace, Winfield, Trinity, Arkansas City, St. James’, Wichita, and St. Stephen’s, Wichita.
The Children’s Ministries Network welcomes Children’s Ministers from across the Diocese. We will soon begin plans for our Spring Event. Join us by contacting us at dokkidscm@gmail.com.
