Katie Madl, wife of Willie Madl, Head Gardener at Bethany House & Garden, has begun offering yoga lessons in the garden. After thirteen years of teaching English Language Arts, Katie is excited to embark on a new path as an educator.
Katie has practiced yoga for over fifteen years, both occasionally and regularly. She continually seeks educational opportunities to deepen her knowledge and to benefit her community. She strongly believes that yoga can enhance all aspects of life. With a history spanning over 5,000 years, yoga offers numerous benefits for physical and mental health. It improves flexibility, strength, and balance, while also reducing stress, anxiety, and chronic pain. The meditative aspects of yoga can enhance mental clarity, concentration, and emotional well-being. Additionally, it may improve sleep quality, cardiovascular health, and aid in weight management.

Bethany House & Garden invites the community to visit and not only admire the beautiful garden but also to join Katie for yoga practice. Bringing people into this space and fostering community connections is essential.
Currently, classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 AM. Katie hopes to expand the schedule to include chair yoga as well. The current class focuses on vinyasa flow, a style characterized by a seamless transition between postures, synchronized with breath.
Chair yoga is a modified version of traditional yoga practiced while seated in a chair. It aims to make yoga accessible to those who may struggle with standing or balancing, including individuals with mobility challenges and those recovering from injuries.
For the class schedule, contact Katie directly at kalalapakatie@gmail.com with any questions. She welcomes your feedback on chair yoga, specifically regarding the best days and times for our community.
Classes are free, and a suggested donation of $10 per session to the instructor is encouraged.
