From the Rev. Dr. S. David Cox, Rector
On behalf of the leadership at St. Michael and All Angels in Mission, Kansas, I look forward to welcoming you to “Living God’s Future Now,” a two-day event sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas on May 15-16. I am eager to meet clergy, music, and lay leaders from the dioceses affiliated with the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry. We are blessed to host you and our presenters—the Rev. Dr. Samuel Wells, Vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, and Dr. Andrew Earis, St. Martin’s Director of Music along with St. Martin’s Voices choral ensemble.

Rev. Dr. Wells’ presentation is rooted partly in his challenging work, Humbler Faith, Bigger God. Wells asks us to imagine a humbler, penitent Christian story and to embrace a God that is bigger than our traditional stories might have described. He invites us into a thoughtful and creative conversation. I am excited for us to dive into this conversation together, bringing to bear the challenges and insights of our particular contexts and experiences.
While I am not a music leader, I look forward to the beautiful music presented to us by Dr. Earis and the choral ensemble from St. Martin’s and to reflect on the creative ways sacred music can be a means of connecting us to the communities around us. I am already enjoying their music online.
I hope that you can be a part of this brief, but impactful opportunity. I look forward to your contribution to what promises to be a stimulating event!
From Ken Walker, Organist and Choir Master

As part of the Living God’s Future Now event with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Wells to be held May 15-16 at St. Michael and All Angels in Mission, we are also privileged to have Andrew Earis, who is the Director of Music at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. Together as Rector and Music Director they have worked thoughtfully in their parish to develop programs of music that seek to express honest faith in a fresh and beautiful way. And we are delighted that they will be bringing the St. Martin’s Voices choral ensemble who will culminate the afternoon with a concert. All are welcome to attend the concert and tickets can be purchased separately for those wish to attend the concert only.
Those of us who are church musicians will enjoy ideas, perspectives, and inspiration they are sure to bring in this unique encounter. Please make plans to attend!
