Here’s what I have sown so far for 2025:
Onions
Swiss chard
Arugula/rocket
Pansy/viola
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Chinese cabbage
Lettuce
Kale
Thyme
Sage
Dill
Besides onions, now is a good time to sow (inside) all of the crops listed above. Most can still be started later on, but I try to plant above ground crops during a waxing moon, and root crops I plant during the waning moon. It may seem early, but these crops can handle cold temperatures once they’re mature and have been placed outside to harden off. The next waxing phase will begin the first of March. So if you don’t have time this week, then this will be your chance to get a good start on the above mentioned crops, and the ones I’ll be planting this week.

What I’ll be planting this week:
Spinach
Tatsoi
Mizuna
Collards
Mustard
Basil
Chili peppers (The hotter they are, the sooner they should be sown. Chilies take a long time to germinate and require very warm soil temperatures. 80 to 90 degrees is ideal.)
Tomatoes can be started now but I will wait till the next moon cycle due to the faster germination and growth rate.
TRIVIA:
Did you know peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant are all related? All of these crops are in the nightshade family or “Solanaceae” if you prefer Latin. They’re so related that all can be grafted together and grown off the same root system. Grafting a tomato to a potato’s root system has been gaining popularity in the last decade. The plants are sold under the name “French fries”.
In the next two weeks that follow, during the waning moon, I will be planting:
Beets
Radish
Turnips
Carrots
I will make another list of things to plant in the near future. Happy sowing!
