Education for Ministry is entering a new chapter with two pathways for formation: EfM: Classic and EfM: Wide Angle. Beginning this fall, the long-standing four-year EfM program will continue under the name EfM: Classic, while EfM: Wide Angle offers a new one-year introduction to scripture, church history, spiritual practice, ethics, and theological reflection.
EfM: Classic remains the well-loved four-year journey, taken one year at a time, that has helped form lay disciples for ministry for decades. Participants study the Hebrew Scriptures, the New Testament, church history, and theology in the context of prayer, worship, theological reflection, and life in community.

EfM: Wide Angle is designed as a one-year program for those who want an authentic EfM seminar experience without making a four-year commitment at the outset and to alumna. It can be taken by those who have already taken EfM. It offers a broader introduction to the Bible, Christian tradition, and vocational discernment, with a lighter workload and a mix of readings and other learning resources.
Both EfM: Classic and EfM: Wide Angle are built around small seminar groups led by trained mentors. As these new opportunities grow, the Diocese of Kansas especially needs additional mentors who feel called to guide conversation, nurture theological reflection, and help create faithful learning communities in person or online.Participant registration for the upcoming program year begins July 15, and is initiated by contacting a local mentor, an online mentor, or the diocesan coordinator.
In the Diocese of Kansas, participants and prospective mentors can learn more by contacting diocesan EfM coordinator Lynda Crowl. lcrowl7325@gmail.com
EfM continues to offer a rich way for lay people to deepen faith, practice theological reflection, and discern their ministry in daily life. To learn more about the program visit the Education for Ministry page on the diocesan website.
