Since 1860 a few acres west of the state capital, called Bethany Place, have been home for the Episcopal Church in Kansas.
Now we want to share this place! With children and youth, neighbors and educators, Episcopalians and state employees…anyone who wants to join our movement of gardening, climate care, and neighborhood empowerment. All are welcome.
It is a place we also reverently share with a variety of plants and animals. The garden spaces at Bethany are designed with the belief that human beings and all God’s creation are interwoven and called into holy relationship. Together we are transformed. We are All About Abundant Life.

There are four unique garden spaces. The Prairie and Pollinator Garden serves as an outdoor classroom, teaching how prairie grasslands, wildlife, and insects are beneficial to our environment. The Culinary Food Garden provides space for growing vegetables and herbs organically that will benefit the community and also be used to teach local students permacultural methods for raising wholesome food. St. Simon’s Chapel commemorates St. Simon’s Episcopal Church, which was closed in 1964 and expresses our commitment to racial and economic equality and empowerment in Topeka, in Kansas, and in the Episcopal Church. And the Spiritual Life Garden invites visitors into meditation, prayer, and rest.
